Why winning your placement games has always been crucial for each season?

Each season in League of Legends begins with 10 placement games where all players have to win as many games as possible if they want to start the season in the highest division. The rank where the players finished the last season sets the rank they will be in the next one. Some people can get pressured when they play these games and we can understand why.

Since S9 but it’s also the case now in Season 11, you don’t lose your points after each loss: you can only go up which makes a more accurate view on your current rank at every stage of your placement games. Also, during previous seasons, the maximum division for all Diamond players and higher was Platinum 1.

placement_matchesLet’s see 2 examples of results you could get according to different tiers:

  • If you were Platinum 1 at the end of season 8 then you would need at least 8 wins to stay in the Platinum tier. If you do a less effective result, then you might start the season in Gold 1 or even lower. It will take you more games to get back to your real ranking.
  • In case you were a higher elo player (above Diamond), it can be devastating to lose many games since it will also destroy your future MMR. We know how difficult it is to get back, especially in high divisions since the LP gain is ridiculously low after the deletion of the promotion series system in between divisions.

A good option to avoid being in this situation and not be too low in the ladder is to let Challengers players is to get a placement matches boost so when your account is controlled by the boosters, you don’t need to be worried about it
It will save hours of games played and you won’t take any risk. So don’t hesitate any more and let high elo players do all your placement matches for you.
